Javelina"Bad Boy"

8h X 11" w X 4" l  Bronze

Edition 100

$1,260.00

Javelina is another name for the Collared Peccary, which is native to the southwestern United States and into South America.  They have a superficial resemblance to pigs, but are a distinct species.  Javelinas are social animals and often travel in herds and families.  They are wild, and cannot be domesticated. They have poor eyesight and generally ignore humans; unless provoked, then you had better be looking for a tall cactus to climb. This piece is finished in the vibrant and exciting colors of the American Southwest, which enhances the image of the “Bad Boy”

Joan and I were bicycling through France a few years ago and detoured to a limestone cave with ancient paintings.  It was a spiritual experience to be hundreds of feet underground, face to face with images created by our ancestors over 30,000 years ago.  This piece is my sculptural interpretation of those moving images.    Although cast in molten bronze, the patina on this piece is designed to give the look and feel of weathered limestone marked with pigments and charcoal

There is probably not a more majestic animal in North America than the elk.  The mature bull in all his masterful glory is the master of his domain.    The patina on this bronze is designed to look as handsome and as rugged as the elk itself.  This sculpture is finished in a dark brownish black oxidation with subtle green weathering.

"The huge shapely body. . .Was set on legs that were strong as steel rods, and yet slender, clean, and smooth.  They were a beautiful dark brown color, contrasting well with they yellowish of the body.  The neck and throat were garnished with a mane of long hair and the symmetry of the great horns set off by the fine, and delicate lines of the noble head."
